Banded Swans

Wednesday, January 7th - The find of the day was a pair of migrating Trumpeter swans with yellow neck bands. I'm currently making a rash of calls to determine where the birds were banded and what their history might be. It was very exciting to find this pair, swimming with a pair of immature ones. These were photographed near Alton, Illinois. The sudden cold snap had the eagles out and flying in great numbers in and around Alton and all along the great river road heading north as well. It was a wonderful day for watching migratory birds and waterfowl in the Alton area. I'm a bit disappointed with the photo of the swans. They didn't appear until just minutes after sunset and the low light combined with the distance I was from them made for poor shooting conditions.

Awesome site Gretchen and photos. I haven't been able to keep up with the group either and gave up trying. I just do what I can as I have so many bad days and when I would try ot play catch up I would pay for it. Will be bookmarking your blog for sure.
